Project Pulse

project-pulseDuring National CPR & AED Awareness Week, the American Heart and Stroke Association recognized the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation for their AED program called Project Pulse.

“Project Pulse New Mexico is a collaborative effort through the American Heart Association, EMS Aspects L.L.C, Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation, and Cardiac Science,” said Kyle Henson of EMS Aspects L.L.C.

“It all started through the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation,” said Henson. “The program kicked-off last week with programs starting at St. Therese and St. John United Methodist churches.”

The program, which hopes to run for years to come, has committed $100,000 to providing AEDs and training to the companies who apply. The AEDs are provided by Cardiac Science and the training is provided by EMS Aspects.

“The brain behind the operation is Terry Harris,” said Henson. “She’s the executive director.”
The $100,000 covers the program for the next three years, and according to Henson, they plan to raise more funds for the cause in the future. Over the next three years, Harris plans to implement a new program each month totaling 120-130 people each year.

According to Henson, Project Pulse New Mexico will use their website as a way to raise awareness and funds for the project. At www.hhnmfoundation.org, corporations or individuals can donate funds to furthering this program. Companies interested in applying for the program can also do so on the same page.

EMS Aspects L.L.C, who provides the training for the AEDs, is the lead training agency in New Mexico. According to Henson, EMS Aspects L.L.C is dedicated to providing high quality education and training by instructors who actually do what they teach.

“The company was started about ten years ago by two paramedics,” said Henson. “They were hoping to save more lives by getting more people trained.”

This is exactly what they do and what they believe in. EMS Aspects L.L.C. is dedicated to improved cardiac arrest survival rates and they have targeted a community response.

According to the AHA, 70% of those who respond to a cardiac emergency have either never received CPR or AED training or it was more than five years ago. Through Project Pulse New Mexico, EMS Aspects L.L.C. is able to reach out to those communities in need.
